Dyce v Culter: Dyce suffered a Shandy hangover as Culter produced a sparkling
first half performance that secured all three points. Despite being hemmed in
for long periods of the second half Dyce couldn’t find their way past a stubborn
Culter defence.
Rattray swung over a great curling cross in the 8th minute that was met by the
head of Martin SHAND and Buckley could only palm the ball into the top corner of
the net. Six minutes later Buckley spilled Robertson’s low drive into the path
of Martin SHAND who swept the ball into the net from close range. Culter was
well in command and another Robertson effort from just inside the box crept past
the post. In 39 minutes a Stott corner was headed back across his own goat by
Lyon and met by Allan YOUNGSON ten yards out who gleefully hammered the ball
though a rack of players and into the net. Half Time: 0 — 3.
Dyce made sweeping changes at half time and attacked from the kick off but found
the away defence hard to crack. Farquhar had to look smart to palm over a Wilson
free kick and then at full stretch to turn a Neish free kick round the post. The
away ‘keeper was then quickly off his line to save at the feet of Reid. Shand
had a great chance for his hat-trick in the last minute but his blistering shot
was well charged down by the diving Buckley.

Culter v Turriff United: Culter finished their season on a high with a fine win
over Highland League bound Turra. The Deesiders consolidated third place in the
league in what proved to be season of frustrations with several players
underperforming and some of the old guard coming to the end of their careers.
Super Skipper Murray Rattray stepped into the circle centre for the toss for his
last game but it was one of the other veterans Donnie Adam who carved out the
first chance of the game when he brought out a fine save from Ross Buchanan
following some determined play. United had an attempt a minute later but Dave
Mackenzie headed well wide from a Leigh Henderson free kick. Henderson then
tried his luck from distance but it sizzled past the post although Farquhar had
it covered. The home side took the lead in the 20th minute when Ryan Stott
seemingly chasing a lost cause managed to squeeze behind the ‘keeper and a
defender before rolling the ball along the line and Lewis McKimmle was on hand
to slam the ball into the net. Five minutes later Dod McBain won a crunching
tackle in the middle of the park before setting up McKimmie but Buchanan was off
his line quickly to thwart the youngster. For a spell it was like the Culter of
old when they started spraying the ball about the park but the second came from
a set piece when a Stott corner was headed home by Derek Craigie who doubled his
tally for the season. The Deesiders dominated the last minutes of the half and
Stott might have done better than find the side netting after decent play down
the left. Chris Mountford replaced McKimmie at the start of the second half and
he almost made an immediate impact when he peeled off his marker before slamming
a long effort just wide. Moments later Rattray was given an inexplicable yellow
card but it was Mountford who who provided the ammunition for Stott but the wee
winger flashed a shot agonisingly wide. Soon after the enigmatic Craigie found
himself clean through but made an absolute hash of an easy chance. Turra did get
a rare shot on target soon after but Jim Brownie’s effort was easily saved by
Farquhar. The visitors did have a decent shot from Robbie king following good
passing movement but on this occasion his try went a little wide. Adam Wilson
then tried his luck for the Crombie Park men but his blast from the edge of the
area was well dealt with by Buchanan. The Deesiders then sent on Gordon Farmer
for Stott but it was McBain who almost set up the third following a great run
and cross but Mountfords volley crashed off the post and away to safety. There
then followed a series of incredible offside decisions against Culter but they
were awarded a free on the edge of the box which Rattray curled straight at the
‘keeper. With ten minutes to go Martin Shand came on for McBain and he soon
broke the offside trap before unselfishly squaring the ball to Chris Mountford
who completed the scoring with a tap in. Shand almost got himself on the score
sheet in the last minute but he fired the ball inches wide from inside the area.
