Tuesday 4 August 2009. Cutter got off to a winning start in the league with a
good win over newly promoted Hall Russell United but they left it late to
consolidate the result.
The Deesiders had all the pressure early on without creating too many chances
until Hugh Robertson found the side netting from an acute angle. The visitors
had an opportunity soon after when Ross Donald broke free but John Farquhar
saved easily. Following a bit of ping pong in the area Cutter took the lead in
fine style when Ryan Stott steadied himself on the edge of the area before
curling a peach beyond Craig Duguid in the United goal. The same player had two
good chances saved soon after before he hit the post with a sparkling drive.
Allan Youngson, back in the starting line up following suspension, then tried
his luck but the United ‘keeper pulled of a fine save. Half Time: 1 — 0.
Cutter went ahead almost from the restart when Richard Wyness buried the ball in
the back of the net following some good lead up play. Hugh Robertson then tried
his luck with a free kick but the effort flew inches wide. The Bridge of Don men
were thrown a life line in the 72nd minute when poor defending allowed Ross
Duncan a free shot at goal and he thrashed the ball past the diving Culter
‘keeper. This was to be the last attack United put together as Cutter camped in
their opponents area with Richard Wyness going close and sub Chris Mountford
firing over from inside the box. The Deesiders consolidated the win late on.
when an Allan Smith rocket almost uprooted the net before Barry Foster powered a
header home from a Ryan Stott corner.

Saturday 8 August 2009. Cutter took all three points at Peterhead with a hard
fought win against the Blue Tooners. It was a pleasing win with the Deesiders
almost assured of a place in the knock out stages.
Culter started on top but a fine Dod McBain cross found no takers before Allan
Smith fired just wide. Hearts gradually got back into It but the exchanges were
eeksy peeksy for a long spell with few chances at either end. The home side took
the lead in the 25th minute when Derek McKechnie got on the end of a fine move
to slam the ball behind John Farquhar. A minute later a fierce Allan Youngson
shot took a wicked deflection but Bill Gatt pulled off a magnificent save. The
Hearts ‘keeper then produced a good stop to deny Richard Wyness the equaliser
before Allan Youngson was hooked for carrying a rib injury and was replaced by
Greig Donald. Half Time: 1 — 0.
Culter came out for the second period with all guns blazing when Dod McBain
found Hugh Robertson who flicked the ball past the ‘keeper and into the net.
Hugh Robertson then sent in a great curling cross which Ryan Stott steered just
wide. Ryan Stott then turned provider but on this occasion Dod McBains header
hit the bar and went behind for a goal kick. Dod McBain then tried his luck from
distance but his shot was high and mighty. The Deesiders went ahead in the 53rd
minute when Allan Smith turned on the edge of the area to send a beauty into the
bottom corner. The Hearts ‘keeper was then lucky to escape punishment when he
appeared to handle outside the area but the ref waved play on. Jim Ellis then
replaced Dod McBain but it was Richard Wyness who almost grabbed the third from
a Barry Foster cross but his dnve fizzled inches over. The impressive Greig
Donald then provided the ammo for sub Chris Mountford but his stinging shot was
deflected for a corner. Culter continued to dominate with Chris Mountford going
close on a number of occasions before a Barry Foster curler flashed wide of the
post.
