Saturday 24 October
2009. After the recent spell of dreadful wet, dark weather, it relented to
permit the game to start. The afternoon steadily deteriorated and
disappointingly our 3 —0 lead proved fruWess when the match was abandoned with
under quarter of an hour remaining. FC Stoneywood’s ground is aptly named — Polo
Park — Water Polo!
Culter kicked off in the heavy rain and both Stott and Shand had decent efforts
that just drifted over the bar. Youngson brought out a good one-handed save from
Marwick and from the corner Marwick again saved well with his legs to block a
header from Smith. A Srrith piledriver went just wide but Culter finally scored
the goal their play deserved in the 13th minute. McBain sent over a corner that
was met by the head of Kevin BROWISE who sent a looping header over the head of
his own ‘keeper and into his own net. Mcintosh was catted into action to save at
the feet of McDonald but normal service was resumed when McBain went on a mazy
that ended with his shot being tipped round the post. Sim replaced the injured
Donald in 29 minutes aas Garioch ventured up the park to send a screamer from 25
yards that shaved the post. Culter doubled their tally in the 43rd minute when
McBan’s cross was met by the sliding Ryan STOTT at the back post to net from
close range. There was still time in the rain for a Robertson free kick to be
scrambled away by Marwick and for Stott to head wide right on the half time
whistle. Half Time: 0 — 2.
From the kick off Michie tried his tuck with a 30 yard effort that had Mcintosh
dashing back to his line to save at full stretch. The one way traffic continued
towards the home goal as a Wyness first time shot was saved by the busy Marwick.
Shands goalbound shot was blocked by Small. In the 58th minute Youngson’s shot
was saved by Marwick but the ball landed at the feet of Richard WYNESS to tap
into the empty net. Shand sent a free kick well wide and then Smith saw his shot
blocked in a goalmouth melee. McBain then saw another effort welt saved by the
home goalkeeper before the referee blew in the 76th minute to abandon the match
due to the adverse weather conditions.
