3 Round Emirates Scottish Junior Cup — Bathgate Thistle 4 Culter 1 (at
Creamery Park, Bathgate) Half Time: 0 - 1. Culter’s Scorer — Chris Mountford
(15 minutes).
Saturday 5 December 2009. In the absence of our normal reporter Kip (in
Yemen) and deputy reporters, the following match details were provided by Club
President Douglas A Jamieson, ably assisted by loyal supporter Arne Bjorkvoll.
Culter put up a spirited display and the final score flattered Bathgate Thistle.
The sending off of Allan Smith after 25 minutes changed the game. After totally
dominating the first
20 minutes and leading by a goal from Chris Mountford in the 15th minute, Culter
capitulated in the
second half and lost four goals to a Bathgate side who fielded two Scottish
Junior International
Players.
The game was 1 — 0 Culter at half time but a very fussy Referee booked several
players from both sides and Bathgate also had a player sent off in the second
half.
Culter can hold their heads high after this display and who knows what would
have happened if eleven-a-side had applied for the whole game.

15 Years Ago. On Saturday 3 December 1994 Culter beat Acorn Heating Cup
Holders FC Stoneywood 2 — 1 at Polo Park in a first round tie. It was Culter’s
second game for new Co-Managers Tommy Madden and Ernie Drews. The match also
featured new signings Steve McBeath from Lossiernouth and Greig Smith from
Brechin City. Kip reported “Both lads played a prominent part in our well earned
victory over arch rivals FC Stoneywood. This was all the sweeter following our
drubbing by the same team several weeks ago. Everyone was a hero but special
mention must go to veteran Stuart Davidson who was credited with both goals.
There must be something in this life begins at forty lark.” Our team that wintry
afternoon was:Ainslie, Grant, Johnstone, Smith, Vass, C Nicol, G Davidson, D
Nicol, McBeath, Lovie, S Davidson. Substitutes: Mckenzie and Paterson.
Kip’s match verdict was “Sweet revenge and a new spirit in the camp”.
