Sixth Soccertess Saturday. As expected our Round GA Engineering Inter
Regional Cup Tie
against Dyce Juniors due to be played at Crombie Park, Culter on Saturday 9
January 2010 was once again postponed. Our pitch is still covered in even more
snow. This tie remains priority and in the event of postponements will continue
as next fixture until completed. This is our sixth Saturday without football —
the Dyce game was previously due on Saturdays 12 and 19 December 2009 followed
by two free dates which was just as well as undoubtedly the weather would have
prevented matches on Saturdays 26 December 2009 and 2 January 2010. Our other
cancellation was the 3 Round Emirates Scottish Junior Cup Tie due to be played
against Bathgate Thistle at Bathgate on Saturday 28 November 2009 because of
their waterlogged pitch. We had, of course, another fruitless Saturday when our
Superleague game against FC Stoneywood at Stoneywood was abandoned in the 76th
minute due to adverse weather conditions on Saturday 24 October 2009 with Culter
leading 3 0.
10 Years Ago. Bottom of the League side Culter produced their first
league win of the season with a spirited performance against Banks o’ Dee at
Spain Park on Saturday 8 January 2000. Bobby Gray, who had just taken over as
Manager, was “Dee-lighted” with the spirit shown by all concerned”! Culter gave
new sign ings Dave Whyte and Stan Valentine their debuts with Scott Johnston on
the bench. Culter won 2 — 1 with both goals being netted by Roddy Cameron. Our
team that afternoon was:Troup; Valentine, Whyte, Gibb, Gibb, Chalmers, Small,
Low, DD Galbraith, Cameron, Marr, Milne; Substitutes: Wyness, Johnstone, DW
Galbraith, Burnett, Anderson.
Congratulations went to Committee Member Arthur Wiseman who married Janette Frew
(former Crombie Park Shop Lady) on Thursday 30 December 1999.
20 Years ago Culter beat Dyce Juniors 2—0 at Crombie Park on Saturday 17
January 1990 in a Bon Accord Glass Premier Division game. The win put us in 3
position in the table with 21 points from 10 games played. Dyce were under their
new manager Ian Esslemont! The Referee was A J Smith, Ellon, and our scorers
were Alan Walker and Paul Thomson. Our line-up was:R Seivwright; M Craigmiie, A
Johnstone; S Rose, E Shearer, L Mason; M Kennedy, K Kennedy, P Smith, P Thomson,
A Walker; Substitutes: C Marnoch and B Burnett.
After this game we lost the services of striker Peter Smith who was off to
Canada for a couple of months. Coinciding with Peter’s parting we signed new
player Cohn Tweedie from Lossiemouth. Culter were in an amazing spelt at this
stage of the 1989/90 season — a 20 match unbeaten domestic run!
