North Regional Cup 2nd Round: Culter I Elton United 2 Half-Timel-I
Scorers: Culter: Wyness 40. Elton Un,ted: Reid 45, Hendry 80
Saturday 6 March 2010. The Deesiders crashed out of the Regional Cup
after dominating for large periods of the match but the visiting defence stood
firm despite the barrage.
The opening exchanges were pretty even with both sides trying to find some
fluency. The first real chance came when a Chris Ogboke flick found Ryan Stott
but he fired just wide before a speculative Matt Edmond cross glanced the top of
the bar before going behind for a goal kick. Dod McBain then tried his luck but
his tame effort was easily saved by the Elton ‘keeper. Richard Wyness then had a
go but his attempt went agonisingly wide. At the other end in a rare Elton
attack Cammy Bruce hoisted an effort well over the bar. There was just over half
an hour gone when a sweeping Culter move saw Lewis McKimmje thrash a shot which
whistled inches over the bar After 40 minutes played Culter took a deserved lead
when a Hugh Robertson cross was spectacularly headed home by Richard Wyness. In
time added on United got back into it when an Atholl Cadger overhead kick was
blocked but Keith Reid followed up for the equaliser.
Culter started with their tails up in the second period with Hugh Robertson
going close with a flashing attempt before Lewis McKimrnie set Chris Ogboke free
but again he struck wide. The Elion ‘keeper then pulled off a lucky save from
Lewis McKimmie as the home side completely dominated. Ryan Stott then had a fine
attempt well saved before the same player saw his deft header strike the post
with the ‘keeper beaten. Andy Sirn then replaced the injured Stott and Martin
Shand came on for Richard Wyness but Elton stole into the lead from a corner
when Scott Hendry bulteted home a header. With the game beginning to close out
Cohn Craik went near on two occasions to deny what would have been a deserved
equaliser.
