Stoneywood Setback

Superleague: Culter 1 FC Stoneywood 2 (at Crombie Park, Cufter) Half Time: 1-0.
Scorers: Culter: Ryan Stott (16 mins), FC Stoneywood: Ross Burnett (65 mins), Ludi Metelski (67 mins)

Saturday 3 April 2010. Culter suffered a setback at the hands of an FC Stoneywood side with many Culter connections. Prior to this match they were second bottom of the Superleague. Our opponents included former Culter players Gordon Farmer and Andy Cowell in their line-up with Marc Small as a substitute and Duncan Ord standing by. After the week’s return of winter weather the snow had disappeared for the game to go ahead on a dull cold afternoon.
In the opening minute Martin Shand just failed to get his head to an Allan Youngson free kick from the left wing. After 4 minutes had been played Gordon Farmer broke through but was taken down outside the box. The resultant free kick flashed dangerously across Culter’s goalmouth but there were no takers. In 11 minutes a powerful close range Ross Goodbrand header was tipped over the bar by Andy McIntosh. George McBain crossed to give Martin Shand a great chance in the l4 minute but he failed to connect. On the quarter hour mark Ross Goodbrand’s fine try was turned past the post by Andy Mcintosh. Following the FC Stoneywood corner Culter broke upfield and George McBain cut the ball across to RYAN STOTT who opened the scoring in the l6 minute. Allan Youngson brought David Stevenson down at the edge of the box in 19 minutes but lain Brooks’ free kick was blocked by Culter’s defensive wall. Two minutes later Andy Sim swung the ball across to Martin Shand whose shot went straight into ‘keeper Ross Gibsons arms. in the 23 minute FC Stoneywood gained two fruitless corners in succession. A minute afterwards Culter broke through but Martin Shand’s drive was well saved by Ross Gibson. Ludi Metelski sent Gordon Farmer through in the 27th minute but his try was comfortably held by Andy Mcintosh. Culter gained three corners in the space of six minutes and off the 391h minute one Darryn Kelly headed over. Two minutes before the interval lain Brooks was booked for dissent. In the last minute of the l half an Adam Wilson free kick was held at the bottom of the post by ‘keeper Gibson. Half Time: 1 0. In the opening minute of the 21 half Martin Shand passed to Ryan Stott who sent it towards George McBain but he failed to connect. Off a 5O” minute George McBain corner a Martin Shand header was headed clear off the goal-line. A 55 minute Stoneywood corner was cleared and next minute Allan Youngson sent the ball to George McBain whose fierce volley flew past. After a fast 59th minute run by George McBain he cut the ball across towards Martin Shand but Ross Gibson dived at his feet to save. On the hour mark Ross Burnett was booked and a minute later Referee Spence had words with an FC Stoneywood official. FC Stoneywood made a vain penalty for handball in the 62 minute. A minute later Neil Anderson was booked for a foul on Martin Shand. A 65 minute corner eventually broke to ROSS BURNETT who fired in the equaliser. Two minutes later disaster struck for Culter when LUDI METELSKI did well to break through and fire FC Stoneywood ahead and this proved to be the match winning goal. At this stage Allan Smith came on as substitute for Allan You ngson. Ross Goodbrand was next to be booked for a 7O minute foul on Darryn Kelly. A couple of minutes after Gordon Farmer raced down the left flank but Greg Donald made a sliding interception with Stoneywood claiming unsuccessfully for a penalty due to alleged handling. There were corners at opposite ends then Lewis McKimmie replaced George McBain in the 75th minute. Next minute Culter were stunned when Dave Calder was sent off apparently for offensive language. Culter came close to equalising when a great Allan Smith try hit the bar and went over in 79 minutes. The same player was booked in the 83’ minute. Culter then gained three corners in succession. After good play by Gordon Farmer he sent the ball across to David Stevenson at close range but it just evaded him. Josh Delmestro replaced Gordon Farmer in 89 minutes and in injury time Fraser Strachan came on for Ross Burnett.
